Pitters – the advantages of owning them

Fruit pitters are a very practical and useful kitchen aid that offer many advantages and benefits for users. One of its most important advantages is the ability to remove pits from fruit. Compared to manual pitting of cherries or sweet cherries, thanks to this device we can save a lot of time and energy. The traditional approach to this activity is extremely time-consuming and labor-intensive, while pitters do most of the work quickly, allowing you to save many hours of manual labor.

Should you wash sour cherries before pitting?

Of course, we should wash both sour cherries and sweet cherries before pitting, just like any fruit we intend to consume. Regardless of whether we plan to eat them immediately or process them to make jam, they should always be rinsed under cool running water. Some wonder if it is better to wash the cherries after using a pitter, but the answer is: no. After the pits are removed, the fruit loses its shape and starts releasing juice, and external contaminants can transfer to its interior. Therefore, it is always best to wash them thoroughly first and only then proceed with their preparation.

Sweets and delicacies from pitted cherries

Once we know how to properly prepare our fruit, it's time to make our favorite dessert. We recommend preparing a delicious cherry cake!

  • 1 and 1⁄3 cups of wheat flour

  • 4 eggs (with yolks)
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. Beat the eggs with sugar until fluffy, then gradually add the butter, continuing to mix all the time (at a lower mixer speed).
  3. Sift the flour with the baking powder and also gradually add it to the mixture, still mixing gently - we recommend sieves.
  4. Pour the batter onto a baking tray, which you can previously line with baking paper.
  5. Scatter the pitted cherries on top of the cake, then place it in the preheated oven.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes – towards the end of baking, you can always check the state of the cake with a wooden stick to make sure it is ready
  7. After baking, you can optionally sprinkle it with powdered sugar.

Of course, the secret to a successful cake is well-pitted cherries, but don't forget to choose the right baking trays and spatulas for mixing – without them, you won't prepare a delicious dessert that will enchant your loved ones with its taste. Enjoy!
